The biggest event on the global tennis calendar is here once again, as the 137th edition of the Championships at Wimbledon get started Monday, July 1.
Picking a winner for Wimbledon 2024 looks almost impossible heading into the tournament, with recently crowned world No. 1 Jannik Sinner the top seed ahead of 2023 champion Carlos Alcaraz and seven-time winner Novak Djokovic; the latter two faced off in an epic decider on Centre Court last year which Alcaraz, 20 at the time, won, 1–6, 7–6, 6–1, 3–6, 6–4.
Five U.S. players feature in each of the top 32 seeds for both the men’s and women’s tournaments, with men Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton 12th, 13th and 14th, respectively. Coco Gauff is the second-favorite among the women in the WTA competition, with Jessica Pegula not far behind in fifth; Danielle Collins and Madison Keys are just outside the top 10.
Gauff and Pegula in particular will have big tasks on their hands to get past WTA top seed Iga Swiatek, fresh off her third straight French Open win. Last year’s women’s tournament was won by the unseeded Marketa Vondrousova, and there could be plenty of shock results once again in 2024.
