U.S. gymnast Dulcy Caylor posted the highest senior all-around total Tuesday (2 April) during the USA Gymnastics women’s selection event. The competition, which will determine the U.S. rosters for two upcoming international events, was held at Stars Gymnastics in Katy, Texas.
Caylor posted a 52.950, just head of World Champions Centre teammate Tiana Sumanasekera’s 52.750. Eveylynn Lowe was third at 52.600.
In the junior ranks, WOGA Gymnastics’ Claire Pease earned a 53.350 to top the standings.
For Caylor, it’s part of a 2024 season that’s started off strong. The 16-year-old, who posted her top score of the day, a 13.900, on the vault, told Olympics.com last month her debut senior season in 2023 forced her to make major changes to her training regimen.
“I really tried to work harder this summer because this first senior elite season was a major wake-up call for me because I didn’t work smart enough, I didn’t get the upgrades I needed,” admitted Caylor. “I was doing almost the same routines that I did in my junior year, which doesn’t translate well to senior elite. I think really [U.S.] championships, when I saw where I placed, I was like, ‘I have to change this. I can’t… I don’t want to do this again.’”
Last month, she was part of the U.S. team that won the DTB Mixed Team Cup in Stuttgart, Germany.
Sumanasekera was the top scorer on the vault with a 13.950, while Jayla Hang’s 13.750 topped the uneven bars results. Lowe posted a 13.950 for the highest mark on the balance beam, and Simone Rose’s 13.550 was the highest for the floor exercise.
USA Gymnastics said in a statement last week that the teams for the Pacific Rim Championships and Jesolo Trophy competitions would be announced following the competition, no later than Wednesday (3 April).
