2024 US Open projected men’s singles seeds: How Alexander Zverev can overtake Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz

Jannik Sinner will be the top seed at a Grand Slam for the second time in his career as his status for the 2024 US Open has been confirmed, but second place is still up for grabs.

Reigning Australian Open champion Sinner has topped the ATP Rankings since the French Open in June and he is assured of staying there until the start of the final major of the year at Flushing Meadows.

The Italian leads the rankings ahead of Novak Djokovic with Carlos Alcaraz currently in third place and Alexander Zverev in fourth.

Alcaraz was initially the hot favourite to pip Djokovic to second place with the cutoff date for 2024 US Open seedings based on the August 19 rankings.

However, the Spaniard lost in the second round of the Cincinnati Open against Gael Monfils, meaning he will remain behind Djokovic while he could even be seeded as low as fourth.

Djokovic opted to skip this week’s ATP Masters 1000 event following his gold medal success at the Paris Olympics and it means he dropped 1,000 points as he was the defending champion at the ATP Masters 1000 event.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, dropped 720 points after finishing runner-up last year and his latest defeat has opened the door for Zverev.

Djokovic sits on 7,460 points in the Live Rankings with Alcaraz on 7,360 after his loss.

Zverev can move ahead of both Djokovic and Alcaraz to No 2 in the rankings with a title run as 1,000 points will move him to 7,635.

Medvedev will be seeded fifth following his early loss with Andrey Rublev and Hubert Hurkaczbattling it out for sixth spot.

The top American man for this year’s US Open is still to be decided with Taylor Fritz currently occupying the spot as he sits at No 12.

However, Fritz has already been knocked out of the Cincinnati Open and Ben Shelton has moved up to No 13 with his run to the quarter-final. Shelton, though, faces Zverev in the last eight and he needs to win that match to overtake Fritz.

Tommy Paul (14), Sebastian Korda (15) and Frances Tiafoe (28) are the other Americans who will be seeded, but Paul and Korda have already lost in Cincinnati.
